The reliable journalist Melissa Reddy tweeted out yesterday that the Reds are closing in on signing Olympiakos left-back Konstantinos Tsimikas.
One Olympiakos fan Constantine Levoyannis (@clevo275) replied to the tweet to explain to Liverpool fans how good Tsimikas actually is.
Constantine wrote: "Liverpool fans u have got yourselves an absolute bargain. Tsimi is quality. Massively improved defensively, good going forward, still improving. Deserves a starters spot and dare i say it he will make Robertson sweat. Gutted he leaves us but at least he’ll continue wearing red."
One Liverpool fan wondered exactly how Tsimikas would make the world's best left-back fear for his starting position, to which Constantine replied confidently.
The Olympiakos fan commented: "I’ve watched Tsimikas play since he was 17. I think I know what I’m talking about. His work ethic is at Cristiano level and his improvement over the past 2yrs is mind-boggling. With English prem league training and klopp as coach, potential is sky high. Time will tell"
Here's one more encouraging fact for you - the left-back was voted into the Eredivisie's team of the season!
Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos, who has been covering the story for Sportime in his homeland, also had something encouraging to say regarding how Tsimikas would challenge Robbo.
He told the Liverpool Echo: "Difficult question but let's say yes (Tsimikas can put pressure on Robertson). Robbo is a great full back, better and better every season with many assists, big impact in Liverpool’s game.
"Also better under Klopp. But I think this is the point also. Tsimikas will be a better player under Klopp and his Liverpool staff. So, I can answer that. Yes. He has also (of course not in the same level) similarities with Robertson’s game."
Chorianopoulos also said that Tsimikas is a very good modern-day full-back who is great at both offence and defence.
Well, call us excited! Robbo was signed from Hull City for a fee of £8M and we would not sell him for 10 times that price now - if Tsimikas is half as good, we have another major bargain in our hands!
