3 reasons a situation like Pogba at Man United would never happen at Klopp's Liverpool

With Paul Pogba now certain to leave United, it is safe to say that the nearly £90m transfer fee that they paid for him was not worth it.

Despite multiple attempts to integrate him into the team and unlock his potential, it has only worked for Pogba in small flashes. Considering the culture Liverpool have cultivated under Jurgen Klopp, this sort of scenario is now almost an impossibility at our club. Here are 3 main reasons why:

Klopp's recruitment criteria

Klopp has said time and again while signing players that the biggest factor that the manager and the recruitment team look at is the player's personality and what their loved ones say about them.

This has worked wonders with Liverpool's current squad an example of selfless individuals who work tirelessly for one another. Calm, friendly and responsible personalities help create an excellent team spirit.

Leadership within the squad

Liverpool's squad is full of leaders. Not just captain Jordan Henderson and vice-captain James Milner but also Virgil Van Dijk, Gini Wijnaldum and Andy Robertson are all leaders in their own right.

Even players who are not as vocal, like the Front 3, lead by example. The expectations that are created by a strong work ethic also lead to players knowing exactly what they're supposed to do.

No egos allowed

No matter how good a player is, if they have too much of an ego, they don't stay at Liverpool too long. Lack of desire and discipline are swiftly dealt with, Mamadou Sakho being an excellent example of this.

This also helps with players being able to play wherever the team requires of them. One of Pogba's problems has been a lack of a set position but almost every Liverpool player is trained to play multiple positions. They're ready to sacrifice and play wherever the team needs them.
