OFFICIAL: Woodburn completes season-long loan to Hearts

The 21-year-old impressed in preseason and there were rumours of him staying put, but the Reds have decided that a loan deal will be better for him.

 play in the Scottish Premiership - they have collected seven points from nine in the league so far.

Woodburn has made 11 appearances for the Reds since debuting as a teenager in November 2016 and will now look to get more game time away from Anfield.

We wish the youngster all the best and hope to see him back better than ever.

The Welshman is nowhere near as exciting a prospect as he was as a fresh 16-year-old but 

 and Pep Ljinders still had some words of praise for him. 

“Ben missed only a small part of the pre-season but around this little break he shows up in a top, top way,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com.

“He played in the pre-season I think four, five, six, seven positions. Played right-back, did really well; played midfield, did really well; played the wing, did really well; played No.9, did really well. So that’s good.”

Ljinders had his own input to add on top of that, saying, “Again, what a performance from Ben.

“The energy he brings to the team is exactly what we stand for. Football smart, a good mover and he unbalances the opposition constantly with the ball but also with his movement off it.

“I’m so happy for him. Like many of the team it didn’t come easy for him, but he has an Anfield future.”

With his new positional versatility taken into account, Woodburn could yet prove all his naysayers wrong but it will be an uphill battle.

"I’d been thinking that for a couple of years, to be honest," 

"I wouldn’t say it was an easy thing to do, but it is definitely the right thing for me. I know I’ve made the right decision."

He then reflected on the time when he thought he could break into the first team at Anfield.

"It was in 2019, when I came back from Derby," he recalled. "I’d had a really good season in the Championship. We fell at the last hurdle in the play-off final, but my numbers were good, my performances were good.

"That pre-season at Liverpool, we played a few games in England and then went out to America and France. I played pretty much every game, scored a few goals and felt like I was in a good position.

"I felt that was my chance, and it had gone. I thought I’d done all I could, and I think that was when I started to accept that I’d have to leave."

Wilson understands getting minutes in this Liverpool side would have been difficult, but still feels he did not get enough chances to show himself, as he leaves the club with just 2 competitive appearances for the Reds under his belt.

"I’m not daft. I know the quality of that Liverpool squad, and I know I wasn’t going to go and play every week like I wanted to.

"The front three rarely miss a game, and their numbers are scary. I was never going to get in ahead of them.

"Obviously from my point of view I feel a little disappointed I didn’t get more opportunities. And yeah, there were players around who maybe got a few more than I did.

"And looking back, yeah, I am a bit gutted that I wasn’t given maybe half a season at least to prove I deserved to be part of that group.

"I’m sad to leave Liverpool, yes, but there’s so much to look forward to with 

Wilson joined the club when he was 8 years old. He was loaned out 5 times before leaving the Reds this summer on a permanent transfer to Fulham. Liverpool will earn around £12m from his sale.

Good move for him, you can see there's potential and he's looked better since his return from his loan at Oxford so hopefully he returns after more development! YNWA

Look at Harvey Elliott, came back a new man from Blackburn... Ben going to Hearts is a great move for him.... More minutes under his belt! Come back stronger for 22/23 season..
