Sean Dyche makes Liverpool history claim to justify Burnley aggressive tactics, responds to Klopp

"My disappointment is he's name-checking players. There's absolutely no need to do that," Burnley manager Sean Dyche said about Klopp's criticism aimed at Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood, as quoted by the Express.

"We've got professional players who have worked very hard in their careers to get to where they've got to.

"The implications of what he said about challenges is wrong, I think it's inappropriate, and it's not something I would do myself.

"My worry is he's questioned that teams shouldn't do everything within the rules to win the game, which we clearly did because there wasn't a single card given out.

"If fans want a game where there's not some form of physicality to win a game, I'd be surprised, including Liverpool fans.

"I know Liverpool's history. I was a Liverpool fan as a kid, still am, but a bit distant now.

"You don't have to look far down the annals of Liverpool's history to see they had a few players who were fighting, not just playing, but fighting to win a game.

"It's fair to say they had a few players in their time and still have a few."

After the Burnley game, Jurgen Klopp slammed the visitors for their aggressive tactics, pointing out to Wood's and Barnes's reckless challenges on Van Dijk and Matip.

"You cannot say 'that's a challenge, I love watching that' — watch wrestling if you like these kinds of things," Klopp said after the game.

Luckily, there were no injuries for the Reds players.
