'I had to apologize to the boss': Goalkeeping coach Achterberg reveals fun story behind Alisson's epic header

It was an improbable and iconic moment, one that will live long in the memory of Reds fans. 

's goalkeeping coach, John Achterberg has now revealed his role in the situation, in an interview with Redmen TV. 

He said: “We get a corner and I see Ali standing there and I had so much aggression that I want to win I shouted ‘ALI GET IN THE BOX!’ 

“So Ali runs and you know the rest. I had to apologise to the boss!”

Achterberg received his fair share of criticism during the 

 years, but his work with Alisson has paid major dividends for the club.

"I think I could do better in coming out, maybe to catch it high but I miss a little bit the time and then 

 did well, just touched the ball behind me and I was lucky that I could turn back and make the save,"

The keeper is not resting on his laurels though and analyses his mistakes and what he needs to improve.

This attitude is the very definition of a winning mentality.

"It's amazing. You never get tired of it," 

 fans singing You'll Never Walk Alone at Anfield.

"Everybody knows about my faith, I always talk about that.

"When I listen [to] the crowd singing You'll Never Walk Alone, they really mean it. For me, this is a message from God saying that really you never walk alone. 

"So, this is not only something of the club but is part of my life and I believe part of the life of my teammates."

Alisson is known as a devout Christian so perhaps it's not surprising he sees YNWA as a sign from God.

The song itself has no religious meaning attached to it as it glorifies persistence through adversity. 

But everyone is obviously free to read it as they please: Alisson's interpretation is quite interesting.

Achterberg, if this was your initiative to call on Ali to leave his goal and proceed to the box area, that means you are playing the game with Klopp.  You need not to apologize, man.  We all need to thank you for your right vision.
