'It's very unfair': Gerrard reacts to 'stepping stone' narrative in first Aston Villa press conference

"I am 100 per cent committed and so are my staff," Steven Gerrard said at his first press conference as the 

 have a world-class coach in Jurgen Klopp. If he was to sign a lifetime deal right now, I would be very happy for him and them.

"It’s very unfair to describe this as a stepping stone — you will never hear me say that. I am really honoured to be here."

Of course, pretty much every media outlet has speculated that the Aston Villa job is just a learning experience for Gerrard before he can succeed Klopp at Liverpool.

There's no guarantee, however, that he can impress FSG enough with the job he'll do at Villa so that he'll be ready to take over in 2024 when, as expected, Klopp will leave.

 legend has wasted no time explaining his recipe for success, but named one key ingredient that won't be used at all. 

"It (ketchup) was banned before I had seen it!", Gerrard said during his first press conference as Aston Villa boss. 

"We need to analyse the squad. We will build and get stronger and be a possession based team. When we transition into that - time will tell.

"The players have to have the right mentality. Go above and beyond. They need to strive to be elite."

Gerrard has a tough job on his hands, with Villa hovering just 2 points above the relegation zone.

"I don’t think me or anyone else will be able to control the noise, but for me that’s not important," Steven Gerrard told Villa TV when asked about the impending return to Anfield as the 

"What’s important is the chance to go to Anfield and win and try and take maximum points, which is the attitude and mentality that we’ll have going into every game.

"It is what it is, I want to win every game that I play in. Now my priority, my focus and everything that I will give on a daily basis will be for Aston Villa.

"One thing I can guarantee for all the supporters, the players and all the staff here is that when I commit to something, I’m all in."

It will be weird to see Steven Gerrard in the away dugout at Anfield on his return there for the first time since leaving 

Aston Villa will pay a visit to the Reds on December 11 and, as this game is not supposed to be broadcast live in the UK, this will be an exclusive experience for the match-going fans.

No one can deny Stevie’s credentials as a player and a captain during he was with LFC.  No one can also deny that he did an excellent coaching job with Rangers last season.  But to think Stevie is the best coach to replace Klopp is a matter of no guarantee because the big difference in coaching experience between the two coaches.  I believe it would put much pressure on Gerrard because all of us fans would think he is the savior.  The success of the coach depends on his mentality and how he’s using his managing capabilities to control, besides, it depends on how good the squad is.  

No can deny how coaches like; Morenho, Carlo Ancelotti, Zidan, etc., are top class coaches, however they failed with some big teams.  On the other side, we saw coaches of delegated teams succeed and   embarrasses big teams.

It’s many factors to guarantee the success of a coach, do these factors are justified with LFC? This is the question.

Every club or company is a stepping stone for whatever reason. It’s unfair to pick on him. For example Antonio Conte is using Spurs as a stepping stone to another club. Not only managers job, all position in a club or company is a stepping stone to another. The problem is can anyone guarantee themselves in getting their dream job? Some do and some not. So why make a big Ho ha over nothing.
