€183m down the drain: Liverpool's all-time flop XI

The Reds have made some amazing transfers in the Jurgen Klopp era, getting their moves right more often than not.

However, the history of the club isn't limited to the last few years. Even if there have not been major money flops here as compared to the likes of Barcelona or Manchester United, there are some blemishes across Liverpool's transfer history.

Let's take a look at Liverpool's all-time flop XI, arranged in a 3-2-3-2 formation:

Goalkeeper: Loris Karius (€6.20m)

Defenders: Vegard Heggem (€5.20m), Sebastian Coates (€8.00m), Paul Konchesky (€4.20m)

Midfielders: Alberto Aquilani (€20.00m), Bruno Cheyrou (€6.5m)

Attackers: Stewart Downing (€22.80m), El-Hadji Diouf (€15.00m), Lazar Markovic (€25.00m)

Strikers: Christian Benteke (€46.50m), Robbie Keane (€24.00m)

Total value: €183.4m

Some names such as Karius, Aquilani, Diouf and Benteke write themselves. Diouf is one of the most hated players who did not do one good thing with the Reds, while Benteke remains the club's most expensive striker ever and he barely had any impact here.

Others might be a little controversial and even forgotten! We'd forgive a fan for not even remembering Cheyrou - he was dubbed the 'next Zidane' and signed by Gerard Houllier but his career ended in two seasons with no memorable moments.

Admittedly, the defence was hard to choose from. There are certain other flops such as Tiago Ilori who failed to leave any mark, but Heggem, Coates and Konchesky get the nod due to their unimpressive time here.

Coates came with great promise but made 12 league appearances in two seasons before two loan deals and eventually being sold. Heggem's most memorable moment was being subbed off for Steven Gerrard's debut, while Konchesky remains one of the worst players to have played for this club.

Andy Carroll is also a shout. While he cost almost twice what Keane did, Carroll was at least valuable in our League Cup triumph of 2012 and was sold for a decent amount, negating some of the loss. Keane never really got off to any start at Anfield and remains one of the club's worst strikers ever.

All in all, this is a team whose performances here are forgotten, with some players even being hated by the fans.
