Diaz & Alisson 8, Tsimikas the GOAT: rating Liverpool players in Chelsea shootout win

Man of the Match

Luis Diaz: 8. Liverpool's most dangerous attacker today. He looked a real threat and kept James and Chalobah on their toes throughout the game with his brilliant control and turns.

The problem was his finishing though. Diaz missed a one-on-one against Mendy early in the game and hit the post towards the end of normal time. But an exciting display nonetheless.

Alisson: 8. Made a brilliant save on Alonso in the middle of the first half. Rescued the Reds against Pulisic shortly after the break. Saved Liverpool in the shootout, saving Azpilicueta's and Alisson's shots.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: 7.5. Trent was excellent at playmaking, as he always is. He played a fantastic ball to set up Diaz for a one-on-one early in the game and set up Robbo for a glorious chance in the second half.

However, Alexander-Arnold was quite poor at the back, allowing Alonso and Pulisic too much space behind him. Deserves credit for two life-saving interventions in the second half though, a last-man clearance on Alonso and a fantastic tackle on Pulisic.

Thiago: 7.5. Ran the show for Liverpool in midfield with his accurate, creative passing. Lost possession a couple of times, leading to dangerous Chelsea counter-attacks though.

Ibou Konate: 7.5. Great defensive display by the young Frenchman, he pocketed Lukaku and made some brilliant tackles.

Sadio Mane: 7. Great link-up play from that false 9 position. Set up Diaz for a number of chances, including the one when Diaz hit the post.

Could have done better

Diogo Jota: 6. Came on in the first half for injured Salah. Got into good positions and made good runs but his finishing wasn't impressive.

Jota missed a big chance shortly before the break. He could have scored at the hour mark with a drilled effort but it went inches wide.

Naby Keita: 6. Not his best performance for the Reds. Bypassed way too easily in the midfield while his passing wasn't accurate enough.

Roberto Firmino: 5.5. Made a return after an injury but did not have much impact on the game, losing the ball way too often.

Special mention

🐐 Kostas Tsimikas. No rating as he did not get enough time on the pitch to leave the mark on the game in normal time. But our Greek Scouser became a hero in the shootout, calmly slotting the decisive penalty past Mendy.

Others: Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Milner 6.5; Matip 7
