Liverpool sent scouts to watch Saint-Etienne defender Saidou Sow during the AFCON qualifiers between Guinea and Egypt, according to L'Equipe.
Naby Keita has been attributed with the recommendation of the central defender to Liverpool.
Here are a few things to know about him:
Still a teenager
Sow is just 19 and is still developing as a defender. This is the best time to sign him as he could mature into one of the best central defenders of his generation.
The Guinean has already become a regular in the French Ligue and the Guinea national team, which means he's gathering experience pretty quickly.
Strengths
Sow is a player who's calm and assured with the ball at his feet. He's not one to hoof it forward when under pressure.
Stats show he's a tough tackler - with 2.2 successful tackles per game. He also makes 1.8 interceptions per game.
The teenager likes to pass the ball from the back - and he's good at it too, with an 83.3% pass accuracy.
Market value
Sow is valued at €4m by Transfermarkt. At this stage of his career signing him will not be a problem for Liverpool financially.
