United willing to 'battle' Chelsea for Michael Edwards, move doubtful for 2 reasons

Referring to 'multiple sources', the Daily Mail claims that Man United are interested in outgoing Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards.

The 43-year-old who officially leaves Liverpool on July 1 has been instrumental in the Reds' return to the elite tier of European club football.

Man United, meanwhile, are continuing the overhaul of their recruitment team. Getting such a specialist as Edwards would be a massive coup for them.

At the same time, it's not clear if Edwards wants to join any other club, let alone Liverpool's biggest rivals, immediately after leaving Anfield. It's been believed that he wanted to take a break from the game.

Moreover, Man United already have a football director in John Murtough, so it's not quite clear what job they would be offering to Edwards.

Earlier, it was claimed that Chelsea were also keen on inviting Edwards. Unlike United, their sporting director post is vacant.
