Van Dijk explains 'key to success' behind Liverpool's 'special' centre-back depth and competition

 - Liverpool's centre-back depth is one of the best in Europe. 

Van Dijk himself is the best defender in the world and asked to speak about the bond that he shares with his teammates, he told Liverpoolfc.com: "It’s quite special to have these boys around and also as partners around, full of quality.

"Different qualities, each and every one of us, but we complement each other very well.

"The relationship we all have together is also a very big thing; we really enjoy the hard work and we all want the same goal and that’s winning games.

"Whoever is playing, we support each other, in every single competition. That’s key to success, so hopefully, we can keep that going."

Van Dijk was back to his best last season after missing almost an entire season with an ACL tear. Hopefully, he can lead the defence on the way to more titles next season.

"For sure I improved a lot with him. I improved with him because I learn about him. I look how he plays," 

 because we play in the same position. Everybody knows Virg is the best defender in the world and I look a lot at how he plays, how he thinks, before the game he knows a lot of players.

"I take inspiration from him and a lot of players in the world, but with him I have the chance to play with him and to train with him. I think it’s just the start and I hope year after year I will learn, learn, learn again.

"I hope one day I will be like him or better one day. I hope!"

Konate made big progress in his first season with Liverpool. He looked a bit raw in the first games since his arrival but he went on to become a first-choice player in the centre-back role, alongside Van Dijk.

He was rewarded with his top form with a call-up to the French national team in June, making his debut for the senior side.

“I do feel this is probably the best collective group of centre-backs around. We probably have THE best in 

 are unbelievable as they showed last season," he told Liverpool Echo. "We stand up well against any other team of centre-backs in the world.

"The whole energy within the camp is amazing and I wouldn’t choose any other people to be in competition with, in that environment and the atmosphere we have. It pushes us in the best way possible.

“What Virg has done is going to make him a legend at the club in world football. That’s the target. To aim high helps you achieve as much as you can. Ibou being even younger than me, it’s obvious we have time ahead of us.”

He needs to play more and stay fit to do that. You can’t rely on past laurels and performances and sustain in the best team in the world .. it’s a constant competition and you have prove your worth regularly or be sold ..

agrees brother and hasn't he done this since his arrival, matip had his first injury free season, gomez and abou are the present a.d future CB, gomez in my opinion is still the best English cb, only Sterling has got to him and his recovery tackles are tye best in our team, VVD plays better with lil him by his side I feel also, his mustard and got years on his side..ynwa

I am not advocating on selling Gomez .. I personally love his game. I am concerned that if he is not being productive the management would decide otherwise and dispose him like they did with Sturridge.. Gomez is exceptional talent and he is wonderful option I will not deny that.
