Xabi Alonso becomes new Bayer Leverkusen head coach

 has got his first job as a senior team's head coach after three seasons at Real Sociedad B.

The Spaniard has been appointed as the new 

 head coach after the German side sacked Gerardo Seoane.

"I know Leverkusen as an excellent club from my time in Germany," Alonso said. "Baye r04 has always had great players, I also see a lot of quality in the current squad. This task excites me a lot."

Alonso takes over the side that is currently in the relegation area in the Bundesliga but also is fighting for a place in the knockout stage of the Champions League with three points after three games.

Just a few weeks ago, Alonso captained the Liverpool Legends side that defeated Man United at Anfield.

 told the club's official website. "I loved it after some time without playing these kind of games. 

"You still know that you feel it, you have it inside and whenever you have the chance it awakens [you]. 

"I really loved it and a great cause, great atmosphere, best stadium in the world. Great day. 

"[Anfield is] different. You have pretty stadiums all over the world, great atmospheres, Champions League nights – but this is Anfield. 

"The soul, the stands, the lights, it's different and it's pure football. That's why we love it as a player, as a fan, as anyone that comes."

Alonso, 40, led the Liverpool Legends side to a 2-1 comeback victory, with Mark Gonzalez and Florent Sinama-Pongolle scoring in the second half.

 Legends 2-1 in a charity match at Anfield.

The Reds had to come from behind, as Dimitar Berbatov opened the score in the first half.

After the break, however, Liverpool's stronger bench paid off, with substitutes Mark Gonzalez and Florent Sinama-Pongolle scoring to win the match for the hosts.

This is the second time the Liverpool Legends defeated their rivals this year: in May, they won 3-1 at Old Trafford.

Yeah true I suppose.  But I do think Xabi currently would be a lot more beneficial to the team than Keita is from the "Keita Rehabilitation Wing" at the Training centre.  🙄
