Liverpool have qualified for the Champions League Round of 16 by finishing second behind Napoli in Group A.
And a calculation of potential knockout pairings shows that the Reds have a 40 per cent chance to face Bayern Munich next.
This is because of three special rules regarding the Round of 16 draw:
1. Group winners will face group runners-up.
2. Teams can't draw teams from the same country.
3. Teams can't draw teams they played against in the group stages.
Thus, Bayern have a very limited pool of potential opponents: Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Club Brugge and AC Milan.
And with three other English teams making the Round of 16 by finishing top of their group, Bayern and Liverpool are each other's most likely opponents.
