On Tuesday, Liverpool academy graduate Neco Williams made his first World Cup appearance for the Welsh national side in a 1-1 draw with the United States.
After the game, cameras picked out his face in tears, after which he said: "That was for you grandad".
Later, the Nottingham Forest full-back explained that his grandfather passed away the night before.
He tweeted: "Yesterday was the toughest news I’ve ever had to face and that was listening to my mum tell me my grandad past away last night.
"To go from crying all day to start in a World Cup game was extremely tough but I got through it from the support of my team mates and family. So I dedicate that game and a important point to him."
Williams has been attached to Liverpool until this summer, so it's not surprising that the Reds' fans - and former players - flocked to replies.
