This explains all the rumours linking the Dutchman to Liverpool recently. 

The 24-year-old earned a call-up to the Netherlands 

 squad and appeared in all five matches for the Dutch in Qatar.

Klopp says Liverpool have 'a bigger problem' than just their midfield

. Liverpool's problems this season is bigger than just their midfield. 

"It's a general problem, not a midfield problem," Klopp tells Sky Sports, per Echo.  

"Defending starts up front, if you don't defend there then the midfield has no chance. Balance might be a problem. 

"Not so much in the last game, as the goals we conceded were two from set-pieces and one from a counter-attack, there weren't balls being played through the midfield. Before that, it's all about organisation.

"It's not so much that one midfield player could sort that, it's about us doing it collectively in the right manner. The way we want to defend is clear. 

"I can't analyse the game differently when we lose or win. If it's right, it's right. If it's not right, it's not right. That will never change.

"Am I completely happy with the play? No, definitely not. But it's not a midfield problem, it's a general thing. You don't start pressing here (points to his head), you start pressing here (points to the heart)."

The popular opinion is that Liverpool needs to reinforce their midfield during the January transfer window to stem the tide. But Klopp sees the matter differently.

The biggest problem for the Reds is their ageing midfield but it looks increasingly likely the club won't sign anyone this month.

So a Liverpool fan nicknamed Chris has suggested a tactical change that he thinks would improve the team and the results.

"I’d like a switch to 4-2-3-1 for the rest of the season," Chris tweeted.

"Accommodates for the injuries we get in midfield whilst utilising our strong attacking depth. Would also allow 

 to become the link between the midfield and the attack, freeing up 

 out of midfield and into their preferred attacking positions, meaning their development won’t stagnate and our midfield won’t lack physicality. Would make us more threatening going forward yet more defensively sound due to Firmino’s role.

"Bobby’s role as a false nine was what sparked our period of success and him playing a deeper role in this system would help 

 to stop leaking attacks whilst also aiding 

 to press higher and with more intensity, leading to even more chances.

"I’m no Klopp but to me this seems the only way to bypass the weakness of our midfield without signing someone this month. Would mean we’ve got six midfielders to choose from for two positions, freeing up 

 to make way for younger replacements in the summer."
