Brighton 2-1 Liverpool: LIVE updates, stats, reactions, ratings

And it's full time. Brighton 2-1 Liverpool. The Reds are knocked out of the FA Cup. Liverpool broke the deadlock through Elliott shortly after the half-hour mark, as Harvey finished a brilliant counter-attacking move.

It took eight minutes for the hosts to equalise through Ferguson's deflected effort.

Salah had a couple of good chances he failed to score while Alisson did extremely well to deny Ferguson from close-range. Fabinho got spared a red card late in the game after a poor challenge on Ferguson.

In added time, Mitoma won the game for Brighton with a fantastic individual goal.

The positive thing is that the Reds were much, much better against the opponent that demolished them 3-0 two weeks ago. However, Brighton are still a team Liverpool should be beating, not celebrating a 2-1 defeat against.

ShaunLFCt: "We subbed on Milner, Henderson, Jones & Fabinho and we lost? I am truly shocked, flabbergasted, puzzled & confused."

Laurie: "Looked in complete control and well in the game with Bajcetic, Thiago and Keita. Sub on Henderson, Fabinho and Jones and we resorted to hacking them out and conceding. It says it all."

⚽90+1' Mitoma gets what looks like a winning goal for the hosts. VAR check and the goal stands.

86' Fab gets booked almost immediately for a foul on Ferguson. VAR checks it for the red card but it's only yellow, fortunate for the Brazilian.

Laurie: "Nah that’s honestly a horrible challenge. He’s been on about a minute. Send Fabinho off and then send him on a flight to Turkey."

🔄85' Fabinho on for Bajcetic.

81' Ibou wins the ball again, preventing a one-on-one. Mac Allister falls down but it's never a penalty.

80' Cracking block by Konate to deny Ferguson!

🔄 79' Curtis Jones on for Thiago.

Ian Doyle: "Alisson comes out of his goal and smashes it out of play - and straight into the electronic scoreboard of the fourth official and shatters the cardboard branding on it. Fourth official Simon Hooper just shrugs"

😂 IDON1MISSCUH: "This is a ridiculously good game, Brighton-Liverpool the new El Classico"

71' Woah, Alisson saves Liverpool here! A brilliant pass by Mitoma, March shots from close range but the goalie denies him.

63' Good turn and run from Gakpo, gets Lewis Dunk booked.

60' A brilliant through ball from Milner but Salah can't get anything out of it and Lamptey clears.

🔄 59' Trent, Elliott, Keita off, Milner, Henderson and Darwin on.

Diana Kristinne: "Subbing on Milner to play against Mitoma doesn't seem like the best idea to me."

AnfieldRd96: "Someone tell me where Ramsay is, man?"

Jay: "Darwin coming on, I am awake!"

56' Great cross from Trent, Salah's effort goes wide but he should have probably left it for Gakpo.

54' Gross fires over the bar from the edge of the box. Not a good start to the second half by the Reds, Brighton are dominating.

46' We're back underway, no HT changes for the Reds.

👉 Half-time whistle. Here's how the game has unfolded so far:

The Reds came close to scoring in the fourth minute but Salah's effort was cleared off the line by Lewis Dunk. It was Liverpool's time to clear the ball off the line in the 15th minute as Trent made a brilliant block on Ferguson.

Salah wasted a great chance in the middle of the half, failing to beat the goalie after Elliott set him up for a one-on-one.

Harvey broke the deadlock with a brilliant finish after the Reds caught Brighton on the break.

Lamptey equalised for the hosts with six minutes to go, as his shot took a massive deflection.

Overall, the Seagulls have been slightly better but it doesn't mean Liverpool were bad — the difference between the game two weeks ago is huge. The Reds need to improve their pressing and passing.

📊Half-time ratings

Excellent: Elliott 8; Keita, Bajcetic, Trent, Konate 7

Decent: Alisson, Robertson 6.5; Thiago, Salah, Gomez, Gakpo 6

43' Big chance for Liverpool but Elliott's touch lets him down and Lamptey denies him with a tackle.

⚽ 39' Lamptey scores a deflected goal with a long-range shot. Alisson was flying in one direction, the ball moved into the other corner.

💬 33' Fans are not particularly happy with Gakpo as he loses the ball again.

lookitsjustin: "Bobby wouldn't have lost that ball like Cody did. Cody just isn't a centre-forward. Man, we need some folks back from injury."

danonck: "Gakpo sprints as fast as Fabinho I see"

Esco9: "Dude Gakpo….please Klopp get him off if you wont play him LW. He is terrrrrrrible at CF"

📊 Andrew Beasley on Twitter: "That was Liverpool’s 850th goal under Klopp. Mohamed Salah has scored (173) or assisted (65) 28% of them."

🗞️ VAR Check on Keita, who won the ball to launch a counter-attack that led to the goal. GOAL GIVEN!

⚽ 31' HARVEY ELLIOTT OPENS THE SCORING!!! Textbook counter from the Reds, Salah drives the ball forward and set up Harvey.

24' Salah wastes a great chance, sticking his effort wide. Elliott's pass to set up Mo was really good.

💬 8u11etproof: "Kinda sad when you only have 50% faith in Mo to score a chance like that nowadays. Should be an easy goal."

21' Alisson makes a save on Mitoma's effort from inside the box.

15' Trent again! This time a brilliant goal-line clearance on Ferguson, Brighton inches away from going 1-0 up.

7' Trent! What a pass with the outside of his boot! Salah wins a corner.

4' Wow! Salah goes close to breaking the deadlock but Dunk clears the ball off the line!

The front three looks like Elliott on the left, Gakpo central, Salah right.

⌚1' We're underway at Amex!

🗣 Klopp on today's starting XI: “Hendo had a little bit of an injury, Darwin as well.”
