'Liverpool didn't deserve to score': B'mouth player brands Salah penalty miss 'justice'

“I saw it again. I mean, my arm comes up, but I’m looking the wrong way,” Bournemouth defender Adam Smith told BBC Radio Solent about the penalty decision in their 1-0 win against Liverpool.

Diogo Jota's header met Smith's arm and, after a VAR review, a penalty was awarded.

“As a defender, you’re taught to jump and hold your arms up if someone runs into your side. To be honest, I don’t quite understand the rules. Defenders cannot jump without their arms,” Smith said.

“Even when I spoke to Henderson and Robbo for Liverpool, they saw it on the big screen and turned to me and said ‘this is tough’.

“Of course it’s a matter of opinion but once again the referees are going against little old Bournemouth.”

Mo Salah dragged his effort wide and Liverpool failed to equalise, having conceded in the 28th minute.

“Honestly, it’s just justice. That should have happened,” Smith added about Salah missing the penalty.

“They didn’t deserve to score, so it’s nice that he missed it.”
