Speaking on the BBC’s Proper Football Podcast, football presenter Chris Kamara unexpectedly claimed that 

Kamara said: "I can exclusively reveal that I told Jose [Mourinho] to take him to Manchester United and Jose said 'these lot won’t give me the money for him.' And he went to Liverpool."

If the story is true, Liverpool should thank the Glazer family for helping them to sign Van Dijk in January 2017.

Mourinho was not the only admirer of Van Dijk as 

 also pushed hard to sign the Dutchman. Luckily, he made the right choice for his career and has won everything with Liverpool since then.

Recalling what Van Dijk said last summer about lack of transfers from FSG - he highlighted one area

We should thank Coutino and Barca, not Glazer family! The purchase of VVD was possible just because of Barca offered a huge sum of money! FSG are not better than Glazer. I think Galzer was even better than FSG in recent years spending! FSG does not deserve to be the owner of my beloved club!
