Speaking to Graham Hunter on YouTube back in January, Adam Lallana said: "Alexis Mac Allister a player that is so pure with how he plays. The way he lends the football, uses others, there's no selfishness in the way he plays.
"It was so special watching him during the World Cup, not playing to begin with and then getting used and proving himself. Then he was playing so well that there was no way he doesn't play, by the end Lionel Messi is looking for him.
"Like, Messi was looking for him to link, to play… Alexis' role is almost to mirror where Messi was. When Messi was deep, he'd take higher positions. When Messi was high, he'd drop. That just shows how much he understands.
"OK, he's not the quickest or the strongest, but it doesn’t matter, because up here [points to forehead] he's like Luka Modric. He's so smart. He knows that the football is faster than anyone or anything. Alexis is a player of that ilk."
Mac Allister's summer move to Liverpool with all but official with the Reds expected to pay Brighton less than £45 million for the Argentina international.
The 24-year-old had an opportunity to join a Champions League club but opted to settle for Europa League football in order to play under Jurgen Klopp.
