Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has warned Everton that the Reds are determined to make up for their embarrassing 2-0 defeat in the Merseyside derby last season when they travel to Goodison Park for the final time on Saturday.

The Dutch international laughed off the taunts from Everton fans, who had claimed that the defeat had ended Liverpool's title hopes.

"Who said that?! Wow!" Van Dijk exclaimed. "They can chat whatever they want!"

Van Dijk acknowledged that the defeat was "very disappointing" but is looking forward to the opportunity to put things right on Saturday.

"It's a game where they will definitely be up for it but so will we," he said.

The Liverpool defender also emphasised the need for his team to improve, particularly in terms of their fight and intensity.

"We have to improve - especially from the first half in terms of the fight in a good way," he said.

With the Reds looking to bounce back from their 3-3 draw with Newcastle United, Van Dijk is confident that his team will be ready for the challenge.

"We will be in, recovering and fresh and ready to attack the next challenge," he said.
