- Atletico Madrid mounted a stunning comeback in extratime to knock out Liverpool from the Champions League.
- It was also Liverpool's first home loss in Europe since 2014.
- 'They could play proper football but they stand deep", moans Klopp after the game.
- He made similar statements on United's style in January.
Liverpool are out of the Champions League! After their treble dreams were ended by Chelsea, Atletico Madrid pulled out a stunner at Anfield with a 3-2 win(4-2 in aggregate) to progress into the last eight.
Well, that didn’t really go that well with Jurgen Klopp who had plenty to complain about after being unable to gulp the loss.
“It's so difficult to play a side like this. I don't understand with the quality they have the football they play. They could play proper football but they stand deep and have counter-attacks.”, he told BT Sport.
“I realise I am a really bad loser, especially when the boys put such an effort in against world-class players on the other side who defend with two rows of four."
Incidentally, Klopp made similar comments about United prior to their travel to Anfield earlier this year.
He indicated that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side “always defends” in the big clashes and is dependent on counter-attacks to get positive results.
Well for all his ambitions of being treble winners, Liverpool will now need to be happy at winning their first Premier League title in 30 years. Their European and Treble dreams have all gone poof in a matter of weeks!
