'Numbers don’t lie': Nani picks Cristiano Ronaldo as greatest player of all time

Former Manchester United winger Nani has been asked to name his favourite Old Trafford teammate and the best player of all time. The Portuguese has come up with the same answer twice - Cristiano Ronaldo.

"One player who really surprised me and impressed me a lot at the beginning was Paul Scholes – he was phenomenal," the 33-year-old told Football Wave. "My favourite was still Cristiano Ronaldo – the best.

"Best player ever? I have seen so many… even from the past like Maradona, Pele... But I would pick my companion in many battles, someone I have won so much with, someone I really respect. Numbers don’t lie and they also show he is the best – Cristiano Ronaldo."

In August 2003, Cristiano joined United from Sporting CP for £12.24m, which made him the most expensive teenager in English football history at the time.

In 6 seasons with the Reds, the attacker made 292 appearances, scored 118 goals, provided 59 assists and won 9 trophies, including 3 Premier League titles and a Champions League.

In July 2009, the Portuguese left Old Trafford for Real Madrid for £80m, a world record transfer fee back in the day. Nevertheless, Ronaldo has always remained a big fan of United and a beloved person among the club's supporters.

Throughout his marvellous career, the 35-year-old has played 1002 games for Sporting, United, Real Madrid, Juventus and the Portugal national team, scored 725 goals, won 28 team trophies, including 5 Champions Leagues and a European Championship, and numerous individual accolades, including 5 Ballon d'Ors.
