'We'll see again for the 2008 rematch': Antonio Valencia still awaiting Man United testimonial match

Former Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia is waiting for his testimonial match that was scheduled to be held sometime this year, reports MEN Sport.

Valencia, who currently plays for Ecuadorian club Liga Deportiva Universitaria, wrote on Instagram: "One year ago one of the best times of my life ended.

"Unforgettable years wearing United shirt. I only have words of gratitude for all the fans and members of the club. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!

"We'll see again for the 2008 rematch," he concluded with a tinge of hope.

The report adds that LDU had earlier confirmed that they will travel to Manchester during the first quarter of 2020 for the testimonial match. But given the current situation, that looks increasingly unlikely.

The coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc in numerous countries across the world and the UK has been one of the worst-affected places.

Furthermore, the travel sector has been hit pretty badly. It could be a while before things get back to normal.

Do you think the testimonial match should happen later this year? Share your views in the comments below or on our new blogging platform!
