Dimitar Berbatov believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will establish himself as a top manager should the Norwegian lead Manchester United to a top-4 finish this season.
Speaking to Betfair, the former Old Trafford striker said: "It's massive for United to finish in the top four. It will give confidence to the manager.
"We all know he gets criticised and put under pressure and people are constantly speculating about his position, but this would cement him in the job.
"He shouldn't be seen as a transition figure anymore, it's disrespectful, it shows him no respect to what he is doing in his position.
"The first games are so important, they need to take their chance. If they do, then there will be a massive change next season and it will be huge."
Man United played out a 1-1 draw away at Tottenham last Friday in their first game back with Chelsea winning their clash against Aston Villa 2-1.
Up next for the Red Devils, who are now five points behind fourth-placed Blues, is an Old Trafford showdown vs also top-4 hopefuls Sheffield United.
