Jose is back: Mourinho launches astonishing rant over Man United-linked Harry Kane
  • Mourinho didn't hold back when responding to Sky Sports' pundit Paul Merson.
  • The ex-Arsenal man has suggested that Kane could leave Tottenham because of Jose's tactics.
  • The Portuguese hit back on Monday, claiming that the Man United-linked striker will continue to score for Spurs.

Peak Jose Mourinho is back, in case you were wondering. The former Old Trafford manager has launched an astonishing rant aimed at Paul Merson after the former Arsenal man suggested that Harry Kane may never recapture his goalscoring form under the Portuguese.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Monday, the 57-year-old said: "The beginning of some comments and analysis started from Paul. First of all Harry played his first game for six months and if you watch the game and analyse the game, compare Harry Kane with Anthony Martial.

"It was not a game of many chances. Do you give credit to my defence for Martial's game? Do you give credit to the Man United defence to the occasions we did create or didn't create? I think you have to look at it in a balanced approach. In our case Harry doesn't play a game for six months.

"I had one guy called [Didier] Drogba. He played 4 seasons for me, he scored 186 goals, which gives an average of 46 goals per season. I have one guy that is not also bad [Cristiano Ronaldo]. He plays for Juventus now. He played for me 3 seasons, he scored 168 goals, which gives an average of 56 goals per season.

"So, dear Paul, I have lots of respect for you, I think Harry Kane has no problems at all to score goals in my teams, especially when he is fully fit, when he has routines of playing. So that's my message to somebody that I have lots of respect for."

Following Manchester United's 1-1 draw against Tottenham, Merson has claimed that Kane could look to leave Spurs this summer should Mourinho continue to implement defensive tactics.

The Red Devils are believed to be keeping tabs on the 26-year-old although executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has recently ruled out signings worth 'hundreds of millions of pounds' after the Covid-19 financial crisis.
