Liverpool staff used charities to survive lockdown - 7 ways Man United showed what it really means to never walk alone

The coronavirus pandemic is continuing to hit people hard and although the situation is slowly improving, the lockdown proved to be a turbulent time for many.

Liverpool left some of its staff high and dry by slashing their working hours (down to zero for some) and a member has revealed on Reddit how they had to go to charities to survive the lockdown. This is painful to hear indeed but it also gives us more appreciation for our club.

Man United not only showed others how it's done but also paid every single staff member - in addition to making various donations. Here are 7 ways the Red Devils have embodied the true spirit of what it means to never walk alone:

  • Refunding tickets of fans

Our game against LASK Linz in the Europa League was one of the first to be played behind closed doors and the club immediately refunded the money of all fans who'd purchased tickets. They've also offered refunds and rebates for season ticket holders.

  • Donations to supporters' clubs on a global level

With 240 supporters' clubs across the world, United donated to every single one of them a total of £240,000 - boiling down to £1,000 per club, which is incredibly generous.

  • Club legends calling up fans

Former players Gary Pallister and Andy Cole rang up and spoke to over 3,000 senior supporters to ensure they did not feel lonely during the lockdown.

  • Refusing to furlough the staff

In what was perhaps the best decision, United decided against furloughing staff and continued to pay every single member. They also didn't enforce pay cuts on the players.

  • Helping the NHS workers

The Red Devils donated 60,000 cooked meals for NHS frontline workers to ensure no one went hungry while working back-to-back shifts during the peak infection stage.

  • Donating to schools...

United donated about £300,000 to aid schools and educational institutions in Manchester. They've also helped vulnerable families by providing 600 food parcels.

  • ...and other good causes

In addition to the relentless work off the field, the Man United Foundation donated £1million to help those affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Let's take a moment to appreciate our club, Reds!
