One player Wayne Rooney wanted Sir Alex Ferguson to sign at the peak of their row

Wayne Rooney had a heated row with Sir Alex Ferguson in 2010, when he almost threatened to leave Man United and join Premier League rivals Chelsea or Man City.

The Englishman even confronted Sir Alex over lack of signings and wanted him to sign influential German midfielder Mesut Ozil, who was nearing his peak during that period.

Recalling his conversations on the matter of signing Ozil, Ferguson had said in 2013: “Wayne asked away because he felt he was playing out of position.

“I can understand that. My judgment was that Wayne wasn't playing well enough.”

Rooney wanted answers about why United didn’t pursue the signing of Ozil, who moved to Real Madrid from Werder Bremen in 2010. Ferguson believed that Wayne was being programmed in what to say by his agent at the time, Paul Stretford.

In the end, Rooney realized his mistakes and signed a new contract with United in 2010 before accepting his new role as an attacking midfielder for the Red Devils – a position in which he earned a lot of success until the end of his playing career.
