Bolton's Andy Kellett: what happened to Van Gaal's weirdest Old Trafford signing?

On February 2, 2015, Manchester United shocked their fans by announcing the signing of Andy Kellett on loan for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old midfielder returned to Bolton Wanderers at the end of the 2015/2016 season after failing to make a single appearance for the Red Devils' first team.

But as it turned out, then-manager Louis van Gaal was not the one to blame for the bizarre winter transfer. Apparently, the Red Devils simply needed someone to boost their Under-21s ranks.

Kellett featured 9 times for the Under-21s before going back to Bolton, playing alongside the likes of Adnan Januzaj and Andreas Pereira. In the end, the Old Trafford youngsters clinched the U21 Premier League championship.
