Speaking to Sky Sports, former Ajax and Netherlands players Ronald de Boer said: "I hear in training Donny van de Beek does well, so there is still the confidence there but of course you want to play regularly."

"You can't play every game, but what he did this year was not what he had in mind. I'm confident in the boy, I know him a little bit, I trained him in his youth, he's a great character, he's a cool boy, he knows what he wants.

"Even at Euro 2020, you might see the real Van de Beek. Sometimes it doesn't fit your jacket, but sometimes somewhere else it does fit. I think he needs to find out himself and I'm confident we’re going to see the real Donny."

Van de Beek will sit down with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and hold talks over his role in the Old Trafford squad before the start of the 2021/22 season, according to the Telegraph.

The Dutchman clocked in at just 1,456 minutes of action across 36 games this season but there's talk of him becoming a first-team regular next year if Paul Pogba leaves the club.
