Dortmund fan explains why Sancho might start slow at United - and what Wan-Bissaka might have to do with it

You might have heard about Man United's interest in Jadon Sancho around this time a couple of years ago, but now it looks like the time is ripe for the transfer to actually happen.

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly lowered their demands down to £80 million (plus add-ons), and the personal terms are rumoured to have been agreed a while ago.

That's why even the Dortmund fans are already resigned to the thought of losing Sanco and imagine how he would fit in this Man United side.

"I've probably watched every BVB game for the last 5 years, so I think I have some pretty good insight," Reddit user alex_0611 writes.

"A lot of people have misconceptions about the type of player he is. They often think that he is a winger that hugs the touchline, is the main provider of width for the team and is flourishing by beating his opponent off the dribble. That is not the case.

"Sancho is at his best when he gets into positions to take important decisions. Meaning when he can decide to either pass, put a ball in behind, attempt a shot at goal or attempt a dribble to then make a decision.

"And in order to do that he needs to have a fullback that is providing width so that he can move into halfspaces, cut inside and then be in a position to make those decisions.

"That's why he was at his best at Dortmund either in a 433 on the left with Guerreiro providing width so that he could cut inside on his strong foot and then take the right decisions.

"Another formation he thrived in was the 343. Same principle, the fullbacks are providing width, so that Sancho can cut inside and operate in those halfspaces.

"If you bring him in those type of positions you get the best out of Jadon. A world-class playmaker and goalscorer, one of the best and most complete offensive players in the world.

"However, I don't think United will utilise him that way. They intend on bringing in a RW to strengthen that flank, as far as I know. However, their RB is Aaron Wan-Bissaka, someone rather defensive, not particularly known for his offensive impact.

"Because of that, I believe Utd would want Jadon to be the main provider of width and beat his opponents off the dribble to then create advantages for his team. Whilst he can do that, he won't be nearly as effective compared to the way Dortmund played him. Especially with a fullback as defensive as AWB.

"This is why I think that if a transfer goes through, Utd will probably not have their expectations met. I'd expect a rather slow start for him, he won't be instantly taking off like Bruno for example. They should figure out how to use him correctly, however, I don't think it will be the way a lot of Utd fans expect them to do."
