Middle of back 3 or Lindelof replacement? 3 ways Man United can line up with Raphael Varane

Manchester United have officially reached an agreement with Real Madrid over the transfer of Raphael Varane to Old Trafford.

The Frenchman is expected to fly to the United Kingdom later this week to undergo a medical examination before signing for the Red Devils.

Tribuna.com have taken a look at how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can line up his star-studded team next season with both Varane and Jadon Sancho in starting XI.

Lindelof replacement

Solskjaer is likely to stick with his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation in 2021/22 and Varane could slot in alongside Harry Maguire as a straight replacement for Victor Lindelof who is yet to establish himself as an undisputed starter.

Middle of back 3

Varane's ball-playing skills could allow the Norwegian to change things up and switch to a back three for good. Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka would be used as wing-backs, giving the Red Devils more fluidity in attack.

Switch to 1 defensive midfielder

Solskjaer is often criticised for using two defensive midfielder but the Madrid centre-back could be the one to change that. With someone of the Frenchman's skill at the back, Paul Pogba would be played in a more advanced position.
