'He's gonna end Ole’s spell': fan explains why Ronaldo's arrival always meant trouble for Solskjaer

Man United are in a slump before a run of games against the 'big six' sides has even begun.

Yesterday, Ole Gunnar Solkjaer's team was defeated by Leicester 4-2, and the result did not quite do justice to their opponents who were a dominant side for a better part of the game.

Naturally, the pressure mounts on Solskjaer who has not led United to a single trophy in almost three years in charge.

However, according to The Athletic's user N G., the Norwegian was always doomed from the moment Man United went and signed Cristiano Ronaldo when the unexpected opportunity arose.

"I’ve said this before, but buying Ronaldo was throwing away all the strategy they had planned over for the past 2 years," the fan writes.

"He doesn’t press, and as a result, the team has stopped pressing altogether. Imagine Martial saying, 'I’ll just move around and the entire team just feed me the ball.'

"No other player scored more than ten goals in Juventus in Ronaldo's three years in charge; in fact, all the big players like Dybala regressed. They sacked three managers and didn’t end up anywhere.

"I’m sorry, a Cavani in front would have chased Leicester's defence like a dog yesterday.

"Ronaldo is gonna end Ole’s spell - all three years of building a high-pressing squad have come to this.

"But benching Ronaldo will invite all sorts of pressure on the manager," the fans adds.

"Now I guess there is no way out: United succumbed to emotion with Ferguson and all ex-players bringing back Ronaldo. Now there is no way out.

"It will signal the end of Ole unless he is confident enough to bench Ronaldo (which I don’t think any manager in the world would)."
