Maguire's brainfart, Ronaldo’s miss & more: 6 episodes you might've missed in Leicester City loss

Man United saw their 29-game unbeaten away streak in the Premier League come to an end with an embarrassing 2-4 loss to Leicester City.

The Red Devils were outplayed for a large chunk of the game and conceded some very poor goals to gift a win to the hosts.

Be it something that happened leading up to a few goals or on other occasions, there are some discreet moments that might’ve been missed by some and here they are.

De Gea’s wonder save to deny Tielemans

David de Gea played a crucial role to ensure that United didn’t concede 5 or 6 against Leicester. He sprang to life in the second half and showed incredible reflexes to deny Youri Tielemans a second goal in the 76th minute.

The Leicester midfielder stole the ball from Nemanja Matic and charged through on goal. He took an impressive shot from just outside the box which was somehow parried onto the goal-post and away by De Gea.

Taking a closer glance, it was evident that the Spaniard made a crucial touch to divert it away from the goal and kept the scores level – at least for a few more minutes.

Maguire left ball watching in Soyuncu’s goal

The Red Devils conceded 2 goals via set-pieces in the loss and Harry Maguire was at fault in both. In the build-up to Caglar Soyuncu’s goal, it was his unnecessary clearance that gifted Leicester a corner to create the goal.

United were unable to defend the initial cross as a shot was superbly saved by De Gea.

But, nobody was able to clear the ball – which ricochet its way to Soyuncu to tap into an open net. Maguire was left standing and ball watching the entire time – while also playing the Leicester man onside.

Matic nearly scores a screamer

Matic had a rather topsy-turvy game in midfield against Leicester. But, there was on one occasion when the Serbian midfielder nearly scored a world-class goal.

Around the 55th minute mark, an attack from United was barely cleared away by Leicester. But the ball fell to Matic – who struck a powerful shot at goal.

The ball eventually burst barely over the bar – leaving Kasper Schmeichel scrambling. If that went in, it probably would’ve even triumphed Mason Greenwood’s goal and perhaps won United the game.

Wan-Bissaka’s unnecessary challenge before Vardy’s goal

The fact that United conceded a goal 12 seconds after Marcus Rashford made it 2-2 angered many fans. The defending for the move was abysmal and it all started from Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s poor decision-making.

As the ball was played wide after the game restarted, Aaron tried to win it back by attempting one of his trademark scissors tackle.

Instead, he completely missed the ball – which Timothy Castagne reached first and moved it forward. United’s backline was left exposed after that and Wan-Bissaka was later booked for his reckless, unnecessary tackle.

Ronaldo's costly miss

Cristiano Ronaldo was kept very isolated by the Leicester defenders, but got a few decent chances in the second half. During the 89th minute – with United losing the game 2-3 – Ronaldo had a big chance to salvage something.

Bruno Fernandes found space on the right-wing and swung in a brilliant cross into the middle.

Cristiano managed to meet it, but hit the shot horribly wide from a position he’s expected to score from. Minutes later, Leicester scored the third and sealed the loss for United.

Another brainfart for Maguire

Maguire looked really deflated towards the end and his error-prone performance continued towards the end. He even played a part in Patson Daka’s goal and looked extremely clueless throughout the move.

Before the free-kick was taken, Daka was being marked by Wan-Bissaka. Yet, the Leicester man lost his marker and easily went past Maguire to the far-post.

Harry saw Daka go past him and made no effort to stop it – allowing him to score an easy tap-in to secure the win for his side.
