Paul Scholes puts pressure on Ole: 'The conviction has to come from the coach'

Speaking to Premier League Productions after the 2–0 defeat against Manchester City, Paul Scholes said: "The conviction has to come from the coach of the way you're going to play football.

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been here three years now and we've come here not really knowing what he's going to do.

"That makes the recruitment almost impossible because you're not buying players for a system. Look at Pep Guardiola, he'll buy players for a system. Jurgen Klopp brings Diogo Jota in as another forward for his system.

"We are bringing players in and trying to shoehorn them into positions. Three years down the line you can see the evidence on the pitch. In this game and two weeks ago [vs Liverpool], we are a long way off."

Solskjaer's switch to the five-at-the-back system worked against Tottenham last weekend but not against Atalanta in the Champions League and Man City in the Premier League this week.

The Norwegian's job is believed to be safe despite the disappointing run of results with the Manchester United board said to be 'desperate' to avoid managerial change this season.
