Man United managed to win their first game with Michael Carrick as the caretaker boss.

The first hour of the game was more of the same from the team, however, with Villarreal firmly in control of the game. It was only after the subs appeared on the pitch as the flow of the game changed.

Ronaldo annoyed during Villarreal's possession

An episode that perfectly describes the first part of the game. Cristiano Ronaldo tries to put Villarreal defenders under pressure... however, as he looks around, there's no one to support him against two opponents.

Ronaldo's reaction is more subdued than it could've been but still visible as he slows down in despair and watches Villarreal launching a new attacking phase.

Rashford knocks Moreno down

Marcus Rashford was one of those who brought on some energy from the bench and while he did not get on the scoresheet, he made his presence known.

Ex-Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno was the player to feel it the most as Rashford sent him flying with a shoulder barge.

Bruno's laser-cut pass for Rashford

Bruno Fernandes had a point to prove after being dropped from the starting XI. He made an assist for Jadon Sancho's goal and should have had another one just one minute before the final whistle.

The Portuguese received the ball in the middle of the pitch, saw Rashford ready to run between the defenders and made a brilliant pass:

Donny van de Beek might not have had a great game himself, but he was genuinely happy for Sancho with whom he spent way too many minutes on the bench:

The Dutchman also had a chat with Carrick who probably will be more willing to get him involved than the predecessor.
