Man United, PSG & more: 5 clubs where Cristiano Ronaldo could start next season

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is already up in the air, just six months after he made his stunning return to Man United.

The Portuguese forward is reportedly assessing his future and could leave Old Trafford if the next manager appointment isn’t to his liking.

With that being said, let’s look at a few clubs Ronaldo could be starting for next season.

Man United

Of course, despite recent rumours, there’s still a high chance that Ronaldo remains a Man United player next summer. He himself hasn’t voiced any desire to leave and his agent Jorge Mendes recently claimed he was very happy at Old Trafford.

Cristiano is contracted to play for United until at least 2023 and should be willing to fulfill his commitments. Moreover, if the club is able to appoint a world-class manager like Erik Ten Hag, it’s very unlikely that Ronaldo would push for an exit.

PSG

Then again, if Cristiano does decide to leave United, there’s a strong chance PSG would snap him up. The Parisians did want to sign him before managing to sign Lionel Messi last summer. The opportunity to have BOTH Ronaldo and Messi playing together would be too lucrative to give up for the wealthy club.

PSG have the means to afford Ronaldo and give him huge wages, especially with Kylian Mbappe set to leave next summer. If United agree to let him go, they’ll probably even accept a low transfer fee (similar to the £15m they signed Ronaldo for).

Juventus

Juventus were unable to get the very best out of Ronaldo and could be enticed to give it another shot with him. As they share a good relationship with United, the two can easily sort out a deal if Cristiano really wants to walk away from Old Trafford.

The Portuguese forward is well suited to the style of Serie A and scored 81 goals in 97 appearances in the competition. If he returns to Italy next season, he can probably pick up from where he left off and continue adding more goals to his all-time tally.

Sporting Lisbon

Cristiano began his professional career at Sporting Lisbon and owes a lot to them. His mother is yearning to him wear the colors of the Portuguese club once again before he ends his professional career.

Ronaldo’s mom has herself stated that she’s told him about her desire to see him play for Sporting again. Being a family person, it’s hard for him to completely dismiss that. If he really wants to leave United, a return to Sporting to fulfill his mother’s wishes remains a stark possibility.

Barcelona

Now, this would definitely be a very controversial move. However, last summer, Barcelona were reportedly ‘offered’ the chance to sign Ronaldo before United snapped him up. Barca are currently suffering from a striker crisis after Sergio Aguero was forced to retire.

If they’re unable to sign Erling Haaland, which is unlikely due to his financial demands, they’d turn attention elsewhere.

While Ronaldo might betray the Real Madrid fans’ trust by joining Barca, helping the Blaugrana win another La Liga title after Messi’s departure could be the ultimate show of power which Cristiano just loves doing.
