Earlier this week, reliable reports in Spain claimed that Manchester United are close to finalising a deal for Frenkie de Jong.

However, a look at the latest reports appear to suggest the Barcelona midfielder will leave the club - but probably not for Old Trafford.

According to Cadena SER, a highly reliable Spanish source, De Jong has 'no intention' of joining United.

He's denied there is an agreement and would rather stay in Barcelona. If sold though, De Jong wants to join a club with a 'higher level' than the Catalan giants.

The former Ajax player would also like to play in the Champions League next season, which isn't something United can provide.

Erik ten Hag has worked with the midfielder in the past but, of course, it remains to be seen if he can lure him to the red side of Manchester.

As per the same report, Manchester City, PSG and Bayern Munich are also competing with the Red Devils to sign De Jong.
