Bruno & more: Gary Neville names 3 Man United who were negatively affected by Ronaldo's arrival

Speaking on The Overlap, Gary Neville said: "At the start of the season, Cristiano Ronaldo created a problem straight away with Edinson Cavani. He Cavani was being pleaded to stay and lead the attack for the year, but when they signed Ronaldo, Cavani was shot then and finished.

"It also upset the dynamic in the dressing room for Bruno Fernandes. I think Bruno looks up to him like a godfather in Portugal, so it made him feel a bit inferior to what he was before. It made Harry Maguire a little bit inferior as captain just naturally — nothing from Ronaldo's doing this.

"Just his presence itself on the pitch means everyone's looking to Cristiano with Harry trying to establish himself as Manchester United captain. Maguire has gone from someone who was growing on the pitch last to someone who looks like he's shot to pieces. Bruno looks like half the player."

Ronaldo arrived at Old Trafford on the final day of the 2021 Premier League summer transfer window with the Glazers not really planning for his signing.

Still, the 37-year-old has pulled his weight under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, finishing as Man United's top goalscorer with 24 strikes.
