Erik ten Hag held his first training session as Man United manager on Monday.

While he did not have his entire senior squad available, there were a number of first-team players who reported to training along with U-23 stars as well.

Ten Hag put his players to work on day one, with the training session going on for many hours and players working till past 4 PM.

Here are some noticeable things spotted in the gaffer’s first training session in charge.

Training goalkeepers to operate as outfielders

One interesting bit noted from Ten Hag’s first training session was how he used the United goalkeepers. The gaffer made the likes of Tom Heaton play as an outfielder in some training drills along with the other players.

This could be an early sign that Erik wants his goalkeeper at Old Trafford to be comfortable with playing the ball out from the back, as well as come away from his goal-line.

Moment with Martial

Ten Hag was also spotted having a conversation with Anthony Martial, who reported to pre-season after returning from his loan at Sevilla. The two seemed to be having a pretty good chat, with a big smile being spotted on the manager’s face.

Shola Shoretire trains with the first team

Among the young players training in Ten Hag’s first session was young midfielder Shola Shoretire, who could have a breakthrough season under the Dutch manager next season.

Ten Hag loves versatile players and can find that in Shoretire, who has been described as capable of playing in either wing, as a no.10, false no.9 and even in centre midfield.

Ten Hag examines the grass

Being a perfectionist, Ten Hag wants everything to be ideal to his demands in the training ground.

As a result, the gaffer was seen checking out the condition of the grass in the Carrington pitches before training and ensuring they are 15mm, the measurement he wants to help the players adapt to his style better.

All smiles for Martial

Martial seemed really happy to be back training with the Red Devils and showed no signs of wanting to leave in Ten Hag’s first training session. The Frenchman was pictured with a beaming smile in training, hinting that he might be liking it under the new gaffer.
