Atletico step up efforts to sign Ronaldo as they make Griezmann available for transfer - Duncan Castles
Atletico Madrid have stepped up attempts to bring in Cristiano Ronaldo as they have placed Antoine Griezmann on the transfer market.
This has been reported by The Times' Duncan Castles, a reporter known for his links with Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes.
The report says that Ronaldo has been impressed by Diego Simeone's willingness to work with him despite years of rivalry during his time at Real Madrid.
That said, Atletico's plan might not work. Griezmann has been offered to potential suitors, including PSG. However, the French giants are trying to offload some players off their wage bill and are not interested in Griezmann.
It's worth adding that Griezmann is actually on loan at Atletico from Barcelona. The loan spell ends next year, but Atletico have a ₤40m buyout obligation.
Ronaldo has expressed his desire to leave Man United before the start of the pre-season. He's yet to join the squad as the club gave him an extended holiday to deal with what was described as a 'personal issue'.
