Michael Owen: Man United's new signings often look like they've never played football before

When speaking about how well new players adapt to Liverpool’s style as compared to how they do for Man United, Michael Owen told BT Sport: “Liverpool over the years, no matter who they’ve signed, have been world beaters.

“Then teams like Manchester United over the last 10 years no matter who they’ve signed look like they’ve never played football before. But what I’m trying to say is it’s very easy to bring a player into the team or for all the players to play well at the same time. It is a team game.

“We’ve seen that with Liverpool, they either play well or flounder like they did the other night [against Napoli].”

United have had a history of recruiting some poor players in the post Sir Alex Ferguson era, but they’ve started to fix their transfer issues in recent years.

The Red Devils splurged over £200m in the summer to sign players like Casemiro, Antony and Lisandro Martinez to bolster their team and all of Erik ten Hag’s acquisitions have looked pretty good so far.
