Speaking to BT Sport, Owen Hargreaves said: "I think Jadon Sancho will be surprised [at not making England squad]. He has played well, he has had a good run of form this season.
"But he will be delighted with that goal [against Sheriff Tiraspol]. When he gets a bit of bad news, he makes his own good news. Jadon is good in these [central] areas. The goal showed everything good about him.
"The players want to be there in the biggest games. There is a major tournament coming so the players will be worried about that. But it is out of his hands, all he can do is play well this season."
Sancho was controversially left out of England's 28-man squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League games against Italy and Germany later this month.
The 22-year-old responded by scoring in the 2–0 win away at Sheriff in the Europa League on Thursday, sending a clear message to Gareth Southgate.
