Man United have been linked to a surprising move for Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford as a long-term successor to David de Gea.
Fabrizio Romano has also validated the interest as the Red Devils are pondering whether or not to extend the Spaniard’s contract, which expires next year.
United have the option to automatically trigger a one-year extension that will see De Gea’s deal expire in 2024 instead.
But they are thinking about getting rid of his high wages and getting a younger goalkeeper, with Pickford a possible option.
Option 1: Pickford in current strongest XI
Pickford would probably be United’s no.1 if he is brought in as De Gea’s replacement. He can then just slot into what is the current strongest team for Erik ten Hag’s side, without considering future signings.
He’d have a strong backline, with the defensive duo of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane shielding him from threat.
Option 2: A few tweaks
In this potential line-up, we have replaced Tyrell Malacia with Luke Shaw and Casemiro with Scott McTominay. Anthony Martial also plays up front instead of Marcus Rashford. It’s still a strong line-up with a formidable backline which can help protect Pickford’s goal.
