Louis van Gaal decided to play Tyrell Malacia in a centre-back role in the Netherlands' 1–0 UEFA Nations League win against Belgium on Sunday
Speaking to De Telegraaf, the defender said: "I went two or three times too much forward. That is not possible in this position as quickly.
"But I was corrected by others. I didn't agree with it at the time, yes. That's right. After the game we talked about that moment for a while and then it was over.
"I'm comfortable with Manchester United at the moment. The national coach thinks that I should also be able to play in the centre of the defence. But I feel best on the left."
Malacia has quickly established himself as Man United's first-choice left-back but apparently Van Gaal believes the 23-year-old is capable of even more.
At the moment, there's nothing to suggest that Erik ten Hag will be tempted to try and move the 23-year-old to the centre of defence at Old Trafford.
