Ex-Rangers striker Ally McCoist: 'Ronaldo should've left Man United. He deserves to play out his career'

Speaking on talkSPORT radio, former Rangers and Scotland striker Ally McCoist said: "Cristiano Ronaldo should have left in the summer. I just think he has reached a stage in his career where he deserves to play out his career and enjoy it and play as often as he can.

"That won't be the case at Manchester United, Erik ten Hag has got to build a team and you saw Ronaldo come off the bench more often than not. I don't think he will start and I don't think that will suit him. I don't have a train of thought that a lot of people have that he would be a bad egg.

"That's just him not enjoying getting beat or losing games of football. Ten Hag and Ronaldo will decide, but I would hate to see his career just sort of peter out, we saw enough against Everton to see he still has magic there that can get goals, it was a great goal it really was."

Ronaldo has been relegated to a part-time player at Old Trafford by Ten Hag after openly pushing to leave for a Champions League club in the summer.

However, things could be about to change for the 37-year-old after his first goal of the 2022/23 Premier League season against Everton last week.
