McTominay matches Solskjaer's incredible European record with Omonia Nicosia last-minute winner

 scored a thrilling added-time winner in 

 1-0 win over Omonia Nicosia on Thursday.

In doing so, the Scottish midfielder became the first United substitute in over two decades to have scored a 90th minute winning goal in an European game.

The last person to have done it? You guessed it right – 

Indeed, the Norwegian forward’s amazing winner in the 1999 

 final was the last time a United substitute scored an added-time winner in a European game.

The Scottish midfielder came on with ten minutes to go and scored the winning goal in the 93rd minute.

Stats show, however, that he has a low-key outstanding goalscoring record for Man United. 

In just over five years as a first-team player, McTominay has scored 17 goals across all competitions for United - and that's while he has played as a defensive midfielder and has not always been a regular starter.

That goalscoring knack of his should not be too surprising: as former Man United head coach 

 revealed, McTominay was quite a goalscorer in youth teams.

"Scott used to be a striker and I think he finishes with authority," Solskjaer said after a 1-0 win over West Ham where McTominay also scored the winning goal. 

"You see that he doesn't mind being in those positions. He just smashed the ball into the net."

"We knew we needed the win tonight but that they'd be fired up too," 

"Neil Lennon is a great coach and no games like this are ever easy. Everyone is pleased with the result.

"You have to be patient sometimes. Rashford had so many chances and we did everything but score. Their goalkeeper was a different class but we created enough chances and deserved to score in the end.

"I wasn't on the pitch for the majority of the game but sometimes you think it's not going to be your day. The team spirit is good though and no one ever gives up.

"It's a massive goal because we need to win the group."

McTominay ended up as an unlikely hero of the game, scoring the only goal in the 93rd minute.
