Maguire leads Man United trio to World Cup with England

 have been included in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the upcoming 

Southgate named his 26-man squad on Thursday afternoon ahead of the Three Lions' first group stage match against Iran on November 21.

Although Maguire has made just eight appearances for 

 so far this season, the centre-back has been a regular for England in recent years and is expected to start for his country in Qatar. The 29-year-old, who has come under scrutiny at Old Trafford, has featured on 48 occasions for the Three Lions.

England are drawn in Group B alongside Iran, USA and while.

"As a centre-back, and a centre-back who likes to defend the box, it's really the last 20 minutes [against

"Obviously, we want to play a little bit better and keep the ball better than we did in the last 20-25 minutes.

"I felt like we had good control of the game for the first 70 minutes and we lost it a little bit in the last 20. 

"It's something that we'll work on, that we won't need to defend that many corners or free-kicks, but yes, for sure, as a centre-back that's what you enjoy, that's what you want to do.

"You want to defend and come out and keep a clean sheet and win 1-0. 1-0s are always the best for a centre-back."

“After the first one, we’ll have more of an idea of how they play and where their strengths and weaknesses are, but for sure, we just have to look after ourselves.

“We have enough talent in the squad of players we have now to go and win the football match and we’ve got to make sure that we perform 100 per cent.”

The Red Devils will first play Villa in the Premier League on Sunday, before hosting them at Old Trafford in the

Good for him. Surprised Kalvin Philips is called up after playing ONE full game this season. But that's Southgate. Risk averse. Two defensive midfielders in front of probably a back 3 or 4. With Trippier playing out of position at LB instead of Shaw.
Marcus will be lucky to get off the bench.
And Wilson......... well part of me wants him to get injured to prove a point, but also to shut my fellow geordies up.
