Asked by Alan Shearer whether he would take Cristiano Ronaldo at Burnley live on BBC, Vincent Kompany replied: "We need players who can run!
"I think in the end everyone loses except perhaps the Manchester United manager [Erik ten Hag].
"I think it is a problem that is now resolved and they will now move on from this."
Kompany, a former Manchester City and Belgium centre-back, is currently managing Burnley who sit first in the Championship table after 21 games.
As for Ronaldo, the 37-year-old is a free agent now after terminating his Man United contract 'by mutual consent' earlier this week.
