With Craig Dawson the subject of a bid from Wolves, Maguire is among the options to replace him in east London. Senegal international Formose Mendy is also being considered.

The Hammers currently sit in the relegation zone, level on points with Southampton and Everton at the foot of the table.

Maguire joined United from Leicester City for £80million in 2019. However, the  Englishman hasn't quite lived up to expectations in Manchester.

This season, he has started just four times in the Premier League, considered as United's fifth-choice centre-back.

"That isn’t me saying Harry is this or that. That’s just looking at the situation cold and saying that’s the way it has to play out.

"If Harry Maguire and his agent aren’t looking for a new club I’d be absolutely gobsmacked. I don’t see Harry Maguire at this stage of his career saying 'I’m happy to be a squad player'.

"I can’t see Harry Maguire who starts for 

 captain saying he’s happy to be sitting on the bench. I wouldn’t be able to understand that."

The 29-year-old has started only four Premier League games this season, with 

 firmly establishing themselves as the starting centre-back partnership.

Maguire himself has vowed to fight for his place at the club, so there's little chance of him moving on in January. His position could change by the summer, however, if he remains a bench player until the end of the season.

"But he has a good future somewhere else because he's still a great talent. He's got leadership qualities, he's learnt a lot at Man United.

"He's had a little bad spell but a lot of it has been good. He's done brilliantly on the international stage, he's great on set-plays, he's a good character.

"He's not a 'big time Charlie', he's humble, he looks like a great lad, good family, good support network around him. He's going to have many takers.

"It wouldn’t surprise me if someone like 

 went for Maguire as another choice for them. A club like 

Maguire is back at Man United after having an impressive 

, reaching the quarter-finals of the competition.

However, the skipper is no longer a key player at Old Trafford with
