'That's 3 times this season': Rashford fumes as VAR denies him Man United history

"That's 3 times this season 😡 Breaking the record for consecutive goals at OT would have been incredible, but I'm proud to have equalled Dennis Viollets record".

Rashford thought he had broken the deadlock against 

 when he stooped to head in Wout Weghorst ’s knock-down at the back post. 

The goal was initially given, which would have seen Rashford become the first player in United history to score in 10 consecutive home matches.

However, the VAR chalked off the goal because it determined that Weghorst had been offside in the build-up.

Rashford equalled Dennis Viollet's long-standing record of scoring in nine successive home matches when he crouched to send home the winner in the recent Manchester derby.

Legendary United goalscorer Viollet, who scored 179 goals in 293 games between 1952 and 1962, set his record in the opening few months of the 1959/60 season.

Teddy Sheringham did score for nine games in a row back in the 2000/01 season, but he missed a home fixture against Leeds United during that phase.

Eriksen was replaced by fellow midfielder Fred who came on to score our third goal in the match, in the 57th minute. Carroll was later dismissed for two bookable offences.

United next face Nottingham Forest in the second leg of our Carabao Cup semi-final, at Old Trafford on Wednesday, and Erik will of course hope to have Eriksen available.
